As a Durable Medical Equipment Pharmacy we do not create a need for our beneficiaries to have a power chair, we only fill the need as established by your doctor. Our highly skilled staff works closely with them in achieving 100% compliance with Medicare, Medicaid and other private insurances. This way we only provide you with the chair that will help you the most.
There are 4 steps to help you make the right choice.
- Visit with your physician for a mobility face-to-face examination.
- Have your physician fax/mail the written prescription and medical records to Freedom Mobility Center.
- A Freedom Mobility Center Consultant will conduct a patient/home assessment to ensure the correct power wheelchair is ordered for you and for the accessibility within your home.
- Freedom Mobility Center will then deliver your power wheelchair that was prescribed by your physician and instruct you on how to operate it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Depending on your home environment, some patients invest in threshold ramps or 6 foot ramps for loading into their home or car. Vehicle lifts are also available for hauling your power wheel chair from one place to another. Stair lifts can also be helpful in improving a patient’s mobility in their home. Freedom Mobility Center is able to provide these items for you as well.
Most insurances provide coverage only if your equipment is medically necessary for accomplishing mobility-related daily activities in your home. Outdoor use only is not a valid qualification.
The entire process can take anywhere from 4-16 weeks. We will keep you and your doctor informed every step of the way and do whatever we can to get you moving as quickly as possible.
Medicare has established 5 years as the expected lifetime of equipment. Although, there are some exceptions to this rule. If your medical condition has changed and your current chair does not meet your medical needs you may be eligible for a new chair.

There are numerous factors in determining if you qualify for a power wheel chair. If you have a mobility limitation such as unsteady gait or balance issues with a history of falls that prevents you from performing Mobility Related Activities of Daily Living (MRADL’s) you may qualify. You are most likely unable to use a cane or walker safely due to these issues and you do not have the upper body strength to self propel a manual wheelchair or maneuver a scooter safely. Other key factors are the motivation and willingness to use the chair as well as having the physical and mental ability required to operate the equipment.
Freedom Mobility Center services your power wheel chair while it is under warranty and will continue to provide service and repairs for the lifetime of your equipment. Insurance typically covers the cost of these repairs.
It is critical that you discuss your mobility limitations with your physician at your appointment. You may want to discuss any mobility limitation that prevents you from performing your Mobility Related Activities of Daily Living (MRADLs). You may want to discuss why your current mobility aids such as a cane, walker, or manual wheelchair are not meeting your medical needs any more. Your physician will document this in person evaluation and forward copies to our office.
